Right Hand Original Abhishek Shankh

This Natural Right Hand Abhishek Shankh (Conch) used for bathing of Deity idols, Shaligram, and used other Abhishekam ritual. Dakshinavarti Shankh (Valampuri) is the symbol of Maa Lakshmi. Goddess Lakshmi is always depicted with Shank in her hands. It is widely used in ISKCON temples.

This is the shell of a large sea snail from the Indian Ocean (a shell of the species Turbinella pyrum), but one that has the very rare reverse-turning spiral.

Uses of this shankh are:

  • Sprinkling water during Aarti.
  • For offering Gangajal.
  • For offering Pachamrit bath to the deities.

The shankha is a sacred emblem used as a trumpet in Hindu ritual, and in the past was used as a war trumpet. The shankha is praised in Hindu scriptures as a giver of fame,longevity and prosperity, the cleanser of sin and the abode of Lakshmi, who is the goddess of wealth and consort of Vishnu. The shankha is displayed in Hindu art in association with Vishnu. As a symbol of water, it is associated with female fertility and serpents (Nagas).
